The 5 hour pre-licensing course is a DMV authorized course that all prospective drivers are required to attend before scheduling their road test. It is a live, interactive, and engaging class that will educate students on driver safety, navigating adverse road conditions, and much more!
NOTE: Students are required to have a PHYSICAL copy of their learner’s permit CARD or interim permit along with any other valid DMV issued document (non-driver ID) in order to be eligible for this course. Students must also have a computer/mobile device with a full-functioning camera and microphone.
The dates for the pre-licensing course are tentative upon our school’s arrangement.
The 5-hour course is designed for new drivers ages 18 and up who are preparing to take the road test for their first driver license. Before you schedule an appointment for your behind-the-wheel driving test, you must pass this course.
This training provides a formal opportunity for new drivers to learn the rules of the road and effective techniques to become a safer and more responsible driver.
After you complete this course, you will be able to:
- Identify the responsibilities of licensed drivers
- Understand the basic rules of the road
- Describe effective techniques for avoiding crashes
- Explain the importance of seatbelts and other occupant protection devices
- Recognize the dangers of driving while fatigued or under the influence
- Summarize highway safety concerns
Students will also learn about key sections of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law that all drivers must follow.
6 hour Defensive Driving Course
The 6 hour defensive driving course refreshes your knowledge of traffic laws and teaches safe driving strategies that help you minimize risks on the road. This New York DMV-approved course is also known as the Internet Point and Insurance Reduction Program (IPIRP).
Upon completion of this course, the DMV will reduce up to four points from your driving record, and you will qualify for a mandatory 10% car insurance discount for three years. You can retake defensive driving courses every 18 months for point reduction and every three years to renew your discount.
This DMV-approved defensive driving course is designed for New York drivers seeking to reduce traffic violation points on their record and receive a guaranteed discount on their auto insurance rate.
To qualify for point reduction, you must have received the violation and points no more than 18 months before you complete the course. Points can be reduced once every 18 months. The DMV will reduce no more than four points in any 18-month period.
By completing this state-approved driver improvement course, you will receive a mandatory 10% insurance reduction for three years. You can retake the course every three years to renew your insurance discount.
